January 19, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. — SpaceX's Falcon 9 B1046-4 launches the In-Flight Abort Test from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Dragon spacecraft intentionally aborted 84 seconds into flight, demonstrating the vehicle’s ability to separate from the Falcon 9 rocket and carry astronauts to safety in the unlikely event of an emergency on ascent during a future crewed mission. Cloud cover prevented a clear view of the abort from my perspective atop the Vehicle Assembly Building.
